How much electricity does the average American use in their lifetime?

A lifetime of electricity consumption

Americans are among the highest consumers of electricity in the world. By looking at the total electricity consumed per capita and multiplying it by the average lifetime of a US citizen, we find that the average person consumes about 1,000,000 kilowatt hours of electricity or about 1 gigawatt hour.
