How much lead is used in US solar panels each year?

Lead is used in most electronics products, including solar panels. It is an important component of the solder that connects electronic components together.

In 2015, 438 tons of lead were used to connect the wiring inside solar panels installed in the US. Globally, 3,900 tons of lead were used in solar panels.

Solar panels are a very small part of the 5 million tons of lead that is mined and sold each year, most of which is used in batteries.
