US coal ash waste could cover all of New York City under 9 feet of ash

Coal ash is the largest industrial waste product in the United States, with 100 million tons of waste created each year. According to the American Coal Ash Association, the amount of coal combustion products disposed of across the US exceeds 2 billion tons. This is enough to cover all of Rhode Island up to your waist and all of New York City under 9 feet of coal ash.
